Amazing course! Old Masters Academy review by Pauline

Old Masters Academy course student

A year ago I began studying this wonderful course. I read and listened over and over again all the art lessons and art history. I was overwhelmed by all the information and precision of the art lessons. So much to learn and practice. Let me tell you, I was pretty scared. I had a lot of work ahead of me, but I enjoyed it so much.

Even if I’m retired, I am a very busy lady. I took my time and went through nearly all of the lessons and did the exercises. My goal was to paint a portrait in the style of the 16th century.

… A happy member and student of the Old Masters Academy.

A reborn passion

… In the digital era the web offers and incredible platform for learning inexistent when I was at college and I’m sure even my instructors at the time didn’t have the skill base one encounters on the web.

Old Masters Academy course seams to offer exactly what I need to fill the gap where I lack knowledge and the prospect of entering the course is very rewarding.

It is never too late – Painting at the age of 71!

Ivo, the Old Masters Academy student

My name is Ivo Bulicic, age 71, now finally enjoying enough quality time to revert to my ever-lasting passion-painting. My carrier of Master of Electrical/Mechanical engineering, as it could be expected, has not been an inviting environment for practicing necessary techniques, nevertheless I’ve been striving as much as I could. I am now happy to be able to advance into more complex techniques and knowledge. …

How to Draw like the Old Masters

What we can learn from Raphael

This year, the World commemorates the 500th anniversary since the death of one of the great masters of the High Renaissance in Italy – Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, whom we simply know as Raphael.

This March, I was very fortunate to visit one of the biggest and best of all the events in Italy – the Raphael Exhibition at Rome’s Scuderie del Quirinale where there were displayed over 200 works of art.

In this short video, you can see how I make a quick sketch at this exhibition.

I am really interested in the techniques of the old masters

Artwork by Alfredo

Hello I am an artist, I live in Naples and I am really interested in the old technique of the masters! that I already use for my paintings but if I win I will be really happy to know your techniques too !!

I would like to explore various topics: for example what colors the masters of the past used, what kind of preparation they did on their canvases and so on. I am an artist for the most part self-taught, I have always tried to know all the secrets of painting but I have also attended courses with some English and other Russian masters and also an Italian, but each of them has his own technique suitable for the type of painting they do. …

I returned to drawing and painting

Artwork by Crystaline Randazzo

… I’ve been following the Old Master Academy videos and newsletters and I’m fascinated by the idea of applying old techniques to new materials and very inspired by the level skill executed in these works.

In addition, Old Master Academy offers me the opportunity to learn art anywhere while my ex-pat lifestyle means that I have to move every few years. Life abroad means constant change and transition and I rarely have the opportunity to have a consistent art teacher in many of the places I live. This is a win-win for me!

You’re never too old to start paint!

Artwork by Mike Strickland

You don’t know anyone who is happier to be retired than I am!

When I retired in 2013, I was trying to decide on what to do with my time. My wife suggested that I should pursue my art! So I jumped in with both (size 14) feet!…

… Finally, there is time, so at 73 years old I am now pursuing a new, full-time career as an artist! …

I want to paint my vision into reality

Artwork by Olivia Anderson

“Since I was a child, drawing and painting has been a passion of mine, but life has only now presented me a change to embrace this passion. With some effort, I can now work and study at the same time, I admit that is very difficult in terms of time and expenses, but my heart smiles to me at the end of the day.

Artworks Before and After the Old Masters Academy course

Unfortunately, I do not have any “before” artworks to showcase as I just started on my artist’s way. I always thought that to draw you have to be an artist, and for me, as an IT support engineer, there is nothing to do with a pencil apart from making notes. I become an IT support engineer because it was my parents’ wish. I could not have my own opinion on this subject because as they put it, I was “too young to know for sure what is good for me and what is not.”…

My greatest hope is to become a self-sufficient artist. I’m twenty-eight right now, and I have calculated that I need at least three years of painting and preparing a strong portfolio of artworks to change my current profession for my dream occupation—to be an independent artist, specifically a portrait painter. …
