Obsession with drawing and painting

Artwork by Bethany D Boyd

As a mother of four, artist, wife, and musician, I have always had a love for anything that sparks the imagination. Growing up with a single mother, I always searched for ways to escape from the reality of the struggles of life in an impoverished home.

Art in all forms became a coping mechanism to heal my mind from the stress of life and continued to be a source of reprieve once mental illness dug its root deep into me. It started with an obsession with drawing, then turned into a love of painting watching every episode of Bob Ross and other television painters I could find. I have continued that hunger for learning even in my present goals. …

I want to paint as the old masters

Artwork by Wassim Touir

I’m 18 years old. I loved drawing since I was a little kid. I always tried to develop my art through training and I found that the Old Masters Academy competition is a very good opportunity, so I give it a shot hopping that I win it. …

The Old Masters Still Rule

Artwork by Robert Brocking

As someone who has never had a single art lesson, I appreciate that the opportunity to have guidance from an academy professional could make all the difference. Learning by trial and error over the years is a slow and laborious process with varying levels of success and failure.

I can only hope that those of you that truly have a love of art, will vote for me as we all share such dreams. I just want to be the best version of me that I can ( as an artist ). For me classical art and the achievement of such a standard is the ultimate dream. A vote for me is a vote for yourselves – as we would be sharing the journey.

I didn’t want to stop drawing

Artwork by Naomi Segal Deitz

… it has been a stop-and-start voyage so far. Despite several years of painting, a shelf of resources, a few workshops, and some success, I still feel with each painting as if I am starting the entire learning process over. Perspective confuses me. Colors go muddy. My glazed layers don’t have the subtlety I’m seeking. My drawings work pretty well, but they get lost under the paint layers and I wonder how to proceed. I’m afraid to paint anything but faces, where I do my best work. …

… I have done lots of reading about painting, but there is nothing like visual learning to see how something is done. The Old Masters approach seems to suit my natural style of painting, and I’d love to have this resource to help me understand and internalize the process and techniques that lead to better, more consistent results.

My interest in animals dates back to my boyhood

Artwork by Ghulam Abbas Khaskheli

…I simply love to paint the animals of Pakistan in their natural habitats very luckily; this is my job in the Wildlife Department of Sindh.

My interest in animals dates back to my boyhood, but here were little or no opportunity to pursue
my interest fruitfully. …

… But I was inspired by the thought that I was not alone who loved to paint
animals, and my interest was spurred on with redoubled confidence.

Now I want to preserve on paper or canvas any animal I have the opportunity to watch and sketch.
It is a great fun, and I have now a collection of my own of which I am legitimately proud. …

Old Masters Academy review by Barbara

Before and After by an Old Masters Academy student

I am a happy grandma of three grandchildren.

I’m a single mom of two, and I work as a social worker. When I was a child, I did quite well in art classes and enjoyed drawing a lot. I was thinking that one day I would start living my life as I had dreamed. Each New Year I wrote a new year’s resolution with a hope that I would definitely find some time for learning art again. Sometimes I felt so desperate and hopeless that my dream would ever come true. …

I can only imagine what my painting skills would be today if I’d taken this course thirty years ago, when I was a bit younger.

Wish for real art instruction!

Artwork by Ana Maria Jauregui

…I am 49 and have two kids 15 and 19. Art takes one of my first places in my life, after family, of course.

Since I was little I loved drawing and painting. I wanted to study art but in those years parents decided for us, saying art wasn’t something you could live off. SO I studied Interior decoration. …

I want to be a fine artist

I want to be a fine artist

… Years ago, I first picked up painting accidentally after a trip to France and capturing the beautiful countryside with my camera. When I got home, the photos looked so beautiful that I decided I would try to paint it. I was hooked ever since. However, over the years, I have not had any proper training as I was always busy with work, etc. But I kept at it with my painting and, from time to time, I would visit galleries and museum just to look at paintings and to perhaps “reverse engineer” what I was seeing. It sometime worked but mostly I would spend hours just trying to get it down, reworking the painting again and again, just so it looked reasonably in decent form. This inconsistent method and approach to painting is so tiresome. I am hoping for a change and a solution to my lack of knowledge as a painter. …

Excellence Is Not A Destination, It Is A Continuous Journey That Never Ends

Artwork by Regina Baxter

… My pursue of the arts started at a later part of my life. I became a wife, mother and had a career. When I turned 40, I did a masters degree in art and a postgraduate degree in art history. I have always been passionate and loved art that any free time I had on holiday, I would not go to the shops, but instead go to museums and galleries. This amused my husband as I didn’t spend money shopping. …

I truly wish to take a course with the Old Masters academy to continue to improve my skills in drawing and painting with the techniques of my favourite artists.

Artwork by Outi Kaski Winqvist

I’m a middle-aged woman, that left my art brush when family life with children was sent to me from heaven I belive
My ArtBrush was replaced with DishBrush for years. …

… An “odd” thing, I want to write here, yet True is that I went to a person many years ago, that can communicate with Spirits on the other side.
The Spirit gave me a Message, that I should bring out the Art and Show to others, what I can.
