I love painting

Artwork by Gail Annette Martin

Have you ever sat outside and looked at the light shinning through the leafs on a tree and discovered, what seemed like thousands of colors, reflecting in the pond below. It is a moment everyone should experience.

I wondered if it was possible for someone, my age, to accomplish the techniques needed to paint this fabulous scene.

After all the kids were raised, my tennis was over, because of bad knees, I needed another outlet for my sole. …

Improving my art is so important to me. I am 75 now and hope to improve, and get more knowledgeable about the ways of the Old Masters. How did they decide on the composition; why did they choose a certain color to be prominent in their painting? How did they meld their objects into the canvas and make them look so real and alive. I want to learn all of that , now! …

Painting my way to recovery…

Once upon a time, a young happy athletic girl found herself with a narrow existence struggling with a chronic pain from my head to my toes throughout her life. In 2013 a diagnosis of Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS). This autoimmune disease is a type of arthritis of the spine. No cure, but at least I had confirmation. I am still determined and optimistic.  There is always light at the end of my road, field of trees or even darkness.

Everyday my hope was that my words, actions and my creative self will encourage the observer to seek a moment of kindness and reflection each and every day of our lives through my art.

One day I found a surgeon to fix the mechanical defect in my back. After many years, it felt foreign yet holding a paint brush in my hand.
Because of that desire to create no matter what obstacle

My own art became my physical therapy for my hand, arm and back during that first recovery.
