I am Jorge Quiros, visual artist and self-taught painter, I am an art teacher and businessman trying to undertake, I am Brazilian and I live in São Paulo, I was born in 1989.

Art is my vocation, and what frees me from my own existential yearnings is, in a way, the engine of my existence; painting emancipates me and I always feel very good after painting, with a finished job, I feel that the time I spend with art is time spent for something truly important.

My name is Rachel Levine and I’m 28 years old, and living in Oakland CA. When I moved here 4 years ago, I decided that I was finally going to become a professional artist.
I have done art all my life, and it’s always had a very special meaning to me. Growing up, I would pause dvds I had and copy what was on the screen to the best of my ability, and do this every single day.

My household wasn’t peaceful either, so my favorite activity would be to draw made up characters with my sister, and create a whole unique world based out of our imagination. I could never stay focused in school, but what always held my attention was art. There are many things I’d like to work on with my art. Anatomy, color theory, maybe even still life. … In my opinion studying the Old Masters is essential for this task. As far as I Know, precisely the arrival of the Oil Painting Medium enabled to paint the human flesh in the more realistic way, never seen before (grisaille and glazes of Primitive Flemish Masters of 15th century) With the ages, other contributions were made (sfumato of LEONARDO DA VINCI in 15th and 16th centuries, scumbling and impasto of TITIAN in the 16th, which was carried to their greatest expressions in REMBRANDT Works in the Baroque period and chiaroscuro style… What I find amazing is how despite all this different techniques and ways of painting, the resulting portraits can be so realistic.
After this, I find it would be very interesting to learn how to paint in “Alla prima” and in the Impressionist and Postimpressionist way of Direct Method, and so on. …

I truly want to learn more and the Old Masters Academy seems to be what I am looking for. I want to get to a place where my art sells itself and I feel truly fulfilled as an artist.

I was painting since I was a child, with crayons, watercolors, pencils and everything else. With 14 I tried to enroll at artschool, but they refused me. So I turned away from drawing and painting for about 10 years.

Then I startet again and taught myself and learned from books and magazins. Watercolors and acrylics on canvas were and are my favourite materials, some attempts I made with digital painting on a drawing tablet, but it is not like painting with brushes and real colours.

I have been painting for a number of years exploring a variety of mediums and styles. Art is healing for me through many instances in my life, including the drowning death of my only child. I do not have a child to leave behind, but can create artistic “children” that may last for hundreds of years.

I currently work in both oils and acrylic. I am exploring impasto techniques and have read that the old masters have explored and incorporated impasto in their work. I believe that Rembrandt, Titan and Rubens are a few who found value in this technique. I would like to learn more about this topic too. …

… I come from a small village in Poland. I was born and raised there and moved to states when I was 15. The only thing I knew was school and farm work for the first 15 years of my life. Not very exciting but at the same time I learned a lot about life and hard work at very young age.

…As someone who has never had a single art lesson, I appreciate that the opportunity to have guidance from an academy professional could make all the difference. Learning by trial and error over the years is a slow and laborious process with varying levels of success and failure.

I can only hope that those of you that truly have a love of art, will vote for me as we all share such dreams. I just want to be the best version of me that I can ( as an artist ). For me classical art and the achievement of such a standard is the ultimate dream. A vote for me is a vote for yourselves – as we would be sharing the journey.

… I work hard and prepare myself daily because I wish to become a great master!!

Art is very important in my life. Art has changed my life dramatically, it has made me feel fulfilled.
I can not live a day without touching a pencil and drawing a picture, when I worked in the industrial zone of my city my hands shout me to do art.

My challenges is learn the old master techniques to make it mine and with that resources has the possibility to generate a new visual style and a new technique. As I commented I wish to become a great master and how they once did it change the history of art. As well I want to paint in new contemporary, and also nationalists themes with yours methods (like Rembrandt, Velázquez, Turner, Delacroix or Gericault). …
