My real passion is painting

Artwork by Christina O’Neill

My name is Christina, and I am a 47-year-old businesswoman, mother, grandmother, wife and a lifelong lover of the arts!

Art has always been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Anywhere from dancing, singing, acting to art collecting. However, my real passion is painting.

From an early age I was always trying to understand, recreate and dissect the old masters’ techniques and applications. I have no formal training, however, continue to study on my own and continue my search for the secrets of the masters. …

I need to learn the Old Masters’ techniques so I can go further in painting realistic subjects

Artwork by Joana Prêza Andrade

… My passion in oil painting is introducing realistic elements in a meaningful way. I also strive to do my own compositions, making it unique. My mind is filled with a lot of painting ideas, but frequently I feel the lack of technique that would allow me to express them fully.

I need to learn the Old Masters’ techniques so I can go further in painting realistic subjects. I already have some technical notions due to my academic studies and conservation practices, but I need to learn some specific techniques of the masters. Furthermore, I need this push to feel able to apply my theoretical knowledge into effective painting practice.

After a lot of research regarding classical painters, traditional painting methods, materials and so on, I’ve finally found the Old Masters Academy. It’s definitely what I was looking for! The perfect course for someone like me. It seems to me that the Old Master’s Academy is the best place online to meet my needs and goals. …

I want to learn the Old Master techniques

Artwork by Jenny Kyng

Growing up in a household where art materials were plentiful–thanks to my mother’s vocation as an artist/art teacher–I started drawing at the age of 2. I was lucky that my parents were somewhat bohemian and didn’t mind the mess. I’ve had a passion for all things art and creativity-related ever since. In this life, however we have time enough for only one obsession. As the ancient Chinese saying puts it: “if you try to chase 2 rabbits, you end up catching neither”. After flirting with both acting and writing in my youth, while still practicing art, I came to the point of having to choose. Art won out in the end.

Along the way, I’ve had to make a living. I was tired of being a starving artist. Being hungry is not so inspiring after all! I was directed into nursing when I was 25.

More recently I’ve become a counsellor and run art therapy groups which I really enjoy. …

I desperately need Old Masters Academy

Artwork by Myra Christina Forrester

I tried to teach myself the old masters techniques. I extensively researched the topic of old masters and the way it was being taught today. YouTube was my best friend for many years and there I found so many ideas and so many ways of painting that it was confusing until I found Old Masters Academy. I tried to teach myself and started at the Mona Lisa, my version.I found a lot of geometry on the Mona Lisa. I look at My Lisa still unfinished and I now know how much I have to learn. I desperately need Old Masters Academy. If I win I will undertake to try again with my new knowledge. …

I love the idea of keeping old masters techniques alive

Artwork by Christopher Delni Offord

Raised in an orphanage in England, I was always a curious soul, somewhat lonely and searching. My first visit to a gallery as a little boy in London found myself transfixed in front of a huge biblical scene by one of the great Master’s. It felt like home.

Your Academy sounds so very apt for what I am looking for, it feels like for the first time I have seen people absolutely dedicated to maintaining the old masters techniques. I currently do the same by painting onto wood. I love the idea of keeping these old techniques alive.

I think winning this course will achieve a life long dream and bring me such joy and propell me as an artist to find in me my real brush on God’s canvas. …

My Life Long Journey in Art

Artwork by Louis Degni

Then almost as an ominous warning my portfolio of about 80 pieces was lost in a house fire. And so began the dark period, in my life journey through art, from age 21 until recently (age 64). During those years I produced only a few pieces for charity. Life had set in, I had bills and children and all of those things that kept me from art. Perhaps those are just excuses I always did wonder if was “good enough?”

The bills are paid the life obligations met and I am finally back to my artwork, living and painting in Citta della Pieve, Italy. Here in Italy I am surrounded by beautiful art to study. But the road back has not been easy and the reason I am submitting this essay is to see what you think of my ability and if you can help. …

I wanted more – to create my own art

Paintings by Roman Jaskolski

My name is Roman and professionally I work as a software engineer.
I remember that as a child I liked to draw, but then PC era began and I focused on the programming.
This kept me 100% busy for over 30 years.

Three years ago I got as a gift a set of pencils. I can say this changed to some extent my life.
I created number of clumsy drawings and was very surprised. This kind of activity was much more exciting than programming!

I focused on the art knowing that I know nothing about it. I read many books about Old Masters, impressionists etc, visited some galleries, bought and watched various instructional cd’s.
This gave me more understanding what art is. But I wanted more – just to create my own art.
As the result began to experiment with various media (watercolor, pastel, oil, tempera), techniques and subjects.

Now art consumes 100% of my free time.
I found that the academic (traditional) approach to the art and Old Masters techniques is the direction I want to follow. …

I would like to develop realistic oil painting skills

Paintings by Gail Pean

I love painting in the style of the Old Masters.

I took several classes from Adrienne Kralick who now teaches at The Smithsonian Art program. I started an art Studio in Great Falls VA 5 years ago and brought in fine art teachers to help us develop realistic oil painting skills.

My copy of Vermeer’s Lady with the Red Hat was revelatory learning the old techniques. …
