This last Fall, I took my first ever oil painting class at a local art school. It was a beginning oil painting class. Like from the basics. I thought, “Still, it is dedicated time to paint every week.” I knew most of the information related to the color wheel and composition from school and the use of acrylics my whole life from 7 years old. So, when we started painting, almost everyone in the class came over to me and said, “What are you doing here. You are not a beginner.” I explained that I wanted to learn how to use oil mediums and what causes the paint to dry faster and how to varnish correctly after I’m done.

Some of those questions were answered and I learned other things there like the Zorn Palette, which was great, but I still have so many questions about oil techniques.

The other thing the course did for me is make me fall in love with oils. The way they look with small brush strokes, the way they blend, the way they stay glossy – I love it all.

I have been doing a painting every week since I started that class. I want to continue to do an oil every week through 2019. I am so excited about the online courses in the Old Masters Academy. I have already learned so much about pre-streched canvases and brushes that I didn’t know before. I already bought the course, but I would like to win another subscription for one of my artist friends who is doing the painting-a-week challenge with me. I know he would enjoy it as much as I am.
